What We Love

102 Hickory has been more than a house for our family of five. We moved to Fairfax in 2005 when our children were still young, having always been enamored with Marin. And who wouldn’t be? Especially Fairfax.

We LOVE being walking distance to town. Fairfax is small enough that faces become familiar quickly. People smile and greet you here, and you feel that your children are safe and secure.

Everyone who has visited this house tells us how good it feels. Some homes are that way. Something about the light. Or the expansive views. Or maybe the wonderful experiences of the families who have lived here and made it their home.

Our family has countless happy memories. Sam and I planting sunflowers on the hillside. Gabe hosting game-and-pizza night with his friends. Neo nurturing his garden of succulents. Michael and I celebrating our wedding anniversaries. Many Happy Birthdays! Family gatherings with relatives near and far. Baking hundreds of holiday cookies! There are too many good times to write down here.

We’ve also loved fixing up this house over the years. The skylight and larger windows. The redwood deck. The remodeled kitchen (my personal favorite) and bathrooms. Every improvement has made it homier and more lovely.

So now it can be your turn to create beautiful memories at 102 Hickory. This really is one of the happiest little towns in Marin.

Goodbye, lovely home…

Patty and Michael Branton

When you purchase a home in Fairfax, you're also purchasing history. There's still a whiff of 1960s counterculture in Fairfax, where the Jefferson Airplane once played softball with the Grateful Dead. This town of 7,500 residents just north of Mount Tamalpais is 30 minutes from San Francisco, less than 20 miles from Point Reyes, and is known as one of Marin County’s more affordable communities. The heart of Fairfax is Broadway Boulevard, which parallels Sir Frances Drake Boulevard, the main traffic corridor heading west. Broadway is a perfect walking street where locals shop at Fairfax Coffee Roastery, purchase fresh local produce at the farmers market, and duck into Fairfax Variety for toys, tchotchkes, and candy. If Fairfax feels like it is living in a time warp, that's just fine with its residents, who have passed ordinances prohibiting chain stores, plastic bags, and Styrofoam takeout-food packaging. The art-deco movie theater and 19 Broadway Bar & Night Club are at the center of the action when it comes to nightlife in Fairfax.
